Peter Batcheler - Chair

Peter joined Southern Spars as General Manager in January 2016, coming from an IT start-up company EROAD, publicly listed in 2014. Before this, Peter has had a diverse background — having worked in the heavy transport industry as well as being Chairman of exporting and manufacturing businesses. He has had salt water in his veins since he was a child and he began his working life with the Navy where he was a patrol craft commanding officer in his mid-twenties. Peter’s experience has proven an asset to Southern Spars in harnessing the passion and technical proficiency of a large group of yacht enthusiasts. His manufacturing expertise is invaluable in improving commercial efficiency to maintain Southern Spars’ global competitiveness. Earlier in 2017, Southern Spars received accolades for being the company that built the Americas Cup yacht. Peter is a Chartered Director with the Institute of Directors. He has been awarded the New Zealand Military Service Medal and the New Zealand Operational Service Medal.

Ted Berry - Secretary

Ted Berry has had a life-long career in education. After graduating from Otago University with a Masters degree with Honours in English and French, Ted completed the secondary course at Auckland Teachers’ College, graduating with distinction. Over the course of his career, Ted has worked in varying educational fields. He was Head of the Languages Department at Southland Girls High School, a Guidance Teacher specialising in Transition Education, the Director of Community Education at Northcote College. Ted was also the Deputy Principal at Kristin, and finally Head of the Middle School at Kristin where he introduced the International Baccalaureat Middle Years Programme. He worked with Black Cat Education in the appointment of senior staff at several Auckland schools. He is currently secretary of the Cruising and Navigation Society of New Zealand. In pursuit of his passion for writing he has completed five full-length personal histories. Ted regularly travels overseas and has been involved in several long distance cycling trips, most notably along the length of New Zealand in 2010 and more recently from Lands End to John O’ Groats through England, Wales and Scotland. He is also a life-long devotee of long distance sailing and over the years has completed 25,000 nautical miles of ocean passages, mainly in the South Pacific.

Lisa Easte - Board Member

Lisa Easte has over 25 years of experience in community and youth development with a passion for building strong community and family relationships building up cultures of achievement and excellence. Lisa has held long time positions with Youthline and Foundation for Youth Development. Trained with a MSc in Psychology, Lisa has also gained skills in teaching both youth and adults, counselling and supervision. Moving into management with strategic and financial planning as well as training and development of workforces. Lisa currently is the deputy chair of ANCAD (Community and Development Inc. ) and sits on the board of NSBS (North Shore Budget Service Inc.) and Healthlink North. Lisa has lived and worked on the North Shore for most of her life. She is an alumni of Northcote College and Auckland University.

Terry Hoskins - Board Member

Terry Hoskins was the Chief Executive of Enterprise North Shore, which was the economic development agency for North Shore City. He operated in that role for over eight years.

Terry was educated and brought up in England where he managed and lead a range of enterprises. He has an MBA from Henley, England, and is a member the Institute of Accredited Business Consultants NZ, the Institute of Directors and the NZ Institute of Management. He is a Trustee of the Independent Business Foundation and Auckland North Community and Development Inc. Terry has helped many enterprises to succeed and grow by taking a strategic view of their enterprises and building on their strengths.
